MOVE TO RUNALIO

Moving from Squarespace.

Updated 30 September 2026. Builders change their menus often; if a step looks different, use the linked help article.

Squarespace can export part of your site, but most people moving a small business site copy their text and save their images by hand. This guide shows what to save, how to keep your domain and email working, and when it’s safe to cancel.

Before you start

  • Keep your site Public and on a paid plan until you’ve saved everything. Squarespace can’t export trial sites, and its help warns that image links in the export stop working once the site is deactivated.
  • Your domain and any Google Workspace email are separate subscriptions. Cancelling the website doesn’t cancel them.
  • If you sign in to Squarespace with an email address on the domain you’re moving, change your login email first so you can’t get locked out.

Save your pages and images

  1. Go to Settings → Site Availability, choose Public and click Save.
  2. Open the Import & export content panel in your site settings. Squarespace’s link opens Settings → Advanced → Import & export. Click Export, then the WordPress icon; it’s the only format offered. If you have several blogs, pick your main one under “Select Primary Blog”.
  3. When Download appears, click it to save the .xml file. Don’t click Clear, which erases the export.
  4. Save a list of your pages by opening yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml in your browser and saving it.
  5. Open each page on your live site and copy its text into a document. You’ll paste it into Runalio.
  6. Save your images one at a time. In the Assets panel, hover over an image, click the three dots, then File Details; right-click the preview and save it. Save any linked PDFs from your live pages.

The export covers layout pages, one blog with its posts, text and image blocks, and gallery pages on version 7.0. It leaves out store, portfolio, events, index, album and cover pages, extra blogs, drafts and design settings. Uploaded videos can’t be downloaded, so keep your original files.

Save your contacts and form messages

  1. Form submissions: for each form, open Pages, open the page with the form, click Edit, click the form block, then the pencil icon. In the Content tab, click Export Submissions to download a .csv file. Forms without a required email field keep each submission for only 30 days.
  2. Contacts: in Contacts, click … at the top right, then Export all contacts and Confirm. Mailing lists and segments export from Lists & Segments. The “Form Submitters” segment can’t be exported, so use each form’s export instead.
  3. Older submissions are also in your inbox, from form-submission@squarespace.info, and in any connected Google Drive sheet, Mailchimp account or Zapier workflow.
  4. To keep active leads in Runalio, add them in Leads by hand and keep the files as your full record.

Store, blog and bookings

  • Products: Products & Services → Products → Export all (.csv, up to 10,000 products). Orders: Products & Services → Orders → Export data → Download CSV.
  • Bookings run on Acuity Scheduling, a separate subscription. Export clients and appointments in Acuity, and cancel Acuity yourself if you stop using it.
  • Source store, blog and booking backends do not migrate automatically. Keep these exports and ask the coding agent to rebuild and connect the required workflows.

Recreate your site in Runalio

  1. Sign in at portal.runalio.com. Choose the correct website in the website selector. The portal opens in your business dashboard. Choose Design space to chat with your coding agent.
  2. Save the business name, contact details, services and prices in Business details and Services. These manual changes do not use AI tokens.
  3. Use Import Website for a public URL you have permission to reuse, then choose pages and inspect the report. Importing replaces the working design while preserving the live site. Or use Add content to upload your text, brand guidelines, photos or video, or paste written content. Files appear in the Asset gallery; attach the relevant files to the chat.
  4. Ask the agent to recreate the site using those files. Messages can contain up to 12,000 characters. For example: “Rebuild our cookie shop from this brief and these photos. Add About and Contact pages, use light blue and cream, and keep these exact prices.”
  5. Review the actual website preview beside the chat. Use Desktop and Mobile preview, and expand the design space for more room. Ask for color, layout, wording or page changes. AI requests count toward the account’s shared monthly token allowance.
  6. Test images, links, forms and any order or payment integration. Verify every price, claim, contact detail and required privacy notice.
  7. Click Publish website for the reviewed version. Draft changes remain private until publication. Test the public site and send a sample inquiry.

Keep independent copies of your exports. Generated content can contain mistakes, and builder-specific forms or store backends do not move automatically. Do not upload passwords, secret keys or payment card information.

Your domain

  • Domains bought through Squarespace, including former Google Domains, are managed at account.squarespace.com/domains. The DNS tab shows every record. Screenshot them all before changing anything.
  • If you cancel your website plan, the domain stays active and keeps renewing, but shows “Website expired” until you point, forward or transfer it. Squarespace domains support forwarding rules, so you can send visitors to your Runalio address. Otherwise keep your Squarespace site running until you can connect the domain to Runalio.
  • To transfer the domain elsewhere: on the domain page, switch Domain Lock off and click Request transfer code. The code arrives by email within 24 hours. Transfers aren’t possible for 60 days after you register or transfer in a domain; they can take up to 15 days, and DNS can’t be edited while one is pending. If you change the registrant’s name, organisation or email first, tick “Don’t initiate 60-day transfer lock”.
  • Domain registered elsewhere and connected to Squarespace: your records live either at your registrar (DNS Connect) or in Squarespace (Nameserver Connect). Copy them before you disconnect the domain in the site’s Domains panel.

See your domain options in Runalio for what you can do today.

Your email

  • Squarespace sells Google Workspace and Essential Email by Titan, and offers free email forwarding. Google Workspace keeps working after you cancel the website as long as its DNS records stay in place. Titan stops sending and receiving if the domain is transferred or cancelled.
  • Before any DNS change or transfer, copy the MX records, the SPF TXT record starting v=spf1, the DKIM record at google._domainkey, the DMARC record at _dmarc, and any verification TXT records.
  • Free forwarding only works on Squarespace-managed domains. If you transfer, set up forwarding with your new provider.

Cancel your old plan safely

  1. Cancel the website last: Billing panel → Subscriptions → your plan → Cancel subscription.
  2. Cancel add-ons you no longer need separately (Google Workspace, Titan, Email Campaigns, Acuity, domain auto-renew). They don’t end with the website.
  3. Don’t delete the site, because deletion is permanent. A site with a Squarespace domain attached can’t be deleted until the domain is cancelled or transferred.
  4. Refunds for annual website plans are only available within 14 days of purchase. Monthly plans and renewals aren’t refunded.
